Ella Woodward is a writer, art historian and fairly awesome foodie. In January 2015, after almost 2 years writing on her blog at DeliciouslyElla.com she published her first book … entitled ‘Deliciously Ella’.
The book has over 100 recipes, and features exclusively recipes which are plant based, using whole-foods throughout. I remember buying this book at the time, and was impressed by its message … simple, healthy, nutritious and easy to prepare plant based food which doesn’t cost the earth and is endlessly good for you. Because of this book, I first discovered chia seeds :-), I’ve since learned that 4 tablespoons of chia seeds in my porridge in the morning will power me through a 10K run in the afternoon. Thankyou Ella !
Its worth taking a bit of time to read Ella’s story, and why she switched to a plant based, whole-food based diet. Ella was diagnosed with a fairly rare illness back in 2011 called Postural Tachycardia Syndrome. This syndrome manifests as tiredness, stomach cramps, headaches, chronic pain … not really a great situation to be faced with. Ella was treated using conventional medicine which wasn’t improving her situation so she decided to take matters into her own hands. After a great deal of research, and some experimentation Ella decided to adopt a Plant based, gluten free diet almost overnight. Since doing this Ella has seen her energy levels return, and she is able to manage her condition without medication.
As a result of this, Ella decide to start her blog and then later create this book which I can only recommend. Its full of great full page colour photographs (so you can see how the end result is mean’t to be). Since being published in the UK, her book has also been published in the U.S. and Australia. I genuinely enjoyed reading through and trying the recipes which Ella has shared in her book, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
