The excitement of the festive season has well and truly blown over, but now Veganuary is here and there’s lots of new vegan and vegan-friendly places to explore in Edinburgh.
If you’re trying vegan for Veganuary, welcome! You’re absolutely spoiled for choice in Edinburgh and I have recently uncovered some new mouthwatering vegan haunts that will make eating vegan an absolute doddle…
Charlotte Lane, Edinburgh EH2 4QZ
This new pizza place has opened up in Edinburgh’s West End, where you can build-your-own pizza from their range of tasty vegan-friendly toppings – and yes, that includes vegan cheese! Order your pizza at the counter, watch it being made right in front of you and cooked in 90 seconds. It’s really tasty, and unlike *other* Pizza restaurants @Pizza doesn’t charge extra for their dairy-free alternative cheese, so it’s good for your wallet too.
3-5 Sciennes, Edinburgh EH9 1NJ
Did someone say vegan doughnuts? Considerit has been doing the rounds for quite some time now at vegan fairs and markets, so the vegan community in Edinburgh was really excited when they decided to set up permanent residence just opposite Summerhall. These doughnuts will be some of the best you will ever taste (vegan or otherwise) and they switch it up with new and exciting flavours every month. They will also be serving vegan ice cream when the warmer weather comes in – summer can’t come soon enough!
The Beet Box
100 Melville Drive, Edinburgh EH9 1JZ
Just along from Considerit on the Meadows you’ll find another new face on the Edinburgh vegan scene – The Beet Box is a small police box serving fresh, healthy vegan goodies. From soups to stews and salads – it’s all here! You can even get vegan treats for your four-legged friend here. Make sure you leave some room for their delicious peanut butter jelly cake.
Land of Bourbon
22a St Patrick Square, Edinburgh EH8 9EY
Staying on the theme of police boxes for just a moment: the police box on St Patrick Square has recently been taken over by fresh-faced Land of Bourbon, which specialises in vegan Afro Caribbean street food. The delicious menu changes every day, but you’re bound to be served delicious, imaginative food that is excellent value for money. Their vegan buffalo “wings” (made with cauliflower) are particularly tasty – and only £3 for a box. Bargain!
24 Marchmont Crescent, Edinburgh EH9 1HG
January is arguably the most miserable month of the year, and during these cold dark winter mornings it seems like only a comforting bowl of warm porridge will do. Well, thankfully Brochan in Marchmont offers a delicious menu full of delicious vegan breakfast and brunch goodies, including beautiful bowls of porridge that are bound to put a smile on your face. This café is the very definition of hygge, so curl up at one of their tables and enjoy a slow cosy morning while watching the cold world go by outside.
