The Cooking Class
In this sociable 2.5 hour class we will help get you familiar with the alternative ingredients that can take your meal from bland to fabulous. We will introduce you to a variety of products, herbs and spices that maybe you were not aware of before. We will be using 100% plant based ingredients which are great for your health and also economical for your family.
During the class we will learn how to use two different main ingredients – TOFU and Textured Vegetable Protein. We will use both silken and firm tofu and you will learn how to hydrate TVP prior to using it for cooking.
Recipe 1: Vegan style ‘scrambled eggs’ – made with tofu and seasonings to give the real taste and sensation of this breakfast favorite.
Recipe 2: Tofu Mayonnaise – Using silken tofu we will learn how to make this staple which is great for summer salads. We will prepare a coleslaw to use alongside.
Recipe 3: Stir fried marinated tofu. Learn how to marinate and prepare tofu to give it extra flavour prior to cooking.
Textured Vegetable Protein also know as TVP can be used as a great substitute for meat main courses. In these two recipes we will rehydrate with organic vegetable stock and then season in keeping with our two recipe outcomes.
Recipe 4: Spaghetti Bolognese. We will made a super quick and easy tomato sauce with diced onions and fresh garlic. We will add our TVP and even your fussiest eaters will struggle to tell the difference from typical ground beef.
Recipe 5: TVP Vegan Burgers. This will become a staple of your weekly recipes. Seasoned to perfection and dressed with all the trimmings (including Vegan mayo) made by others in class…. They will make enough for your recipe.
You will pair off with a fellow student and learn how to prepare one of these dishes.
During the class we will talk through the ingredients used including where are the best places that you can buy these ingredients. You will prepare one of these dishes alongside your partner student. At the end of the evening, the class will sit down together and enjoy the meal that has been prepared. Bring Tupperware dishes if you want to take away left overs.
Each of the 5 recipes prepared will be sent to you via email once the class is completed, so you can use the recipes covered in the class to start preparing these dishes at home.
We want you to have fun and enjoy this class, all you need to bring is your favourite apron. All ingredients for the recipes used will be provided at the class. Enjoy !
